There's a new trailer for The Martian, but we'd advise against watching it unless you're really bad at connecting the dots in a story — between this one and the debut trailer from June, you'll probably be able to figure out most of the movie's plot progression.
The Martian distributor 20th Century Fox called the June trailer a "teaser trailer" while today's is labeled as the "official trailer." But at lengths of 3:18 and 3:09, respectively, they both give away a lot, although there's plenty of overlap in the footage and Matt Damon's voice-over. (Thankfully, both trailers contain the great "I'm gonna have to science the shit out of this" line, uncensored even in a green-band trailer.)
Based on the eponymous 2011 novel by Andy Weir, The Martian tells the story of NASA astronaut Mark Watney (Damon), who is marooned on Mars after a dust storm and presumed dead. With a limited supply of food and water, and no way to phone home, Watney must figure out a way to survive on the red planet — and let the rest of his crew and all the people of Earth know that he's actually alive.
The star-studded cast includes Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Kristen Wiig, Michael Peña and Chiwetel Ejiofor. For some reason, Ejiofor is playing the role of Venkat Kapoor (renamed to Vincent in the movie), an Indian man who is NASA's director of Mars operations.
Written by Drew Goddard and directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian is set to hit theaters Oct. 2.
