Composer teases Final Fantasy 12 re— make ... or remaster. Something's happening.

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

Some new edition of Final Fantasy 12 is in the works, according to the composer who stages the live concert tour for the series' music.

Arnie Roth's comment — that a Final Fantasy 12 remake (his word) was in the works — came at a Distant Worlds concert in Pittsburgh Saturday night. Final Fantasy 12 launched in 2006 for PlayStation 2 and has not been updated or ported forward to any console or platform.

From Final Fantasy Network, here is video of Roth's remarks at the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds event in Pittsburgh on Saturday. Distant Worlds is a live concert series showcasing Final Fantasy's music.

"And there's a Final Fantasy 12 remake underway, that's coming out soon," Roth says, before plugging Final Fantasy 15.

Square Enix at E3 2015 announced a Final Fantasy 7 remake. There's good reason to suspect Roth slipped up when he said remake — like, a full recreation of the game akin to what Square Enix has promised with Final Fantasy 7But it sounds like something is afoot. It would be strange for someone so familiar with the series to slip up and confuse 7 for 12, especially when he introduces Hitoshi Sakimoto as the composer of the original Final Fantasy 12. Sakimoto also has no credit on another numbered game in the main series.
