The Metal Gear Solid 5 launch trailer is here to say goodbye

The launch trailer for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is aimed at long-time fans of the series with the precision of a laser. There is no attempt to bring in new fans, or to explain what's going on; you've either already purchased the ticket to this particular journey, or you're going to be a bit confused about what you're going to see.

Remember, even though Konami is removing his name from the game's branding, this is a Hideo Kojima game. What is very likely to be the last Hideo Kojima-led Metal Gear. This doesn't feel like a victory lap as much as a sort of tearful goodbye to the fans.

The game is coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC on September 1. Are you already on board, or are you still baffled by this whole thing?
