More than four months ago GSC Game World, the company that made the STALKER franchise, formally came out of hibernation to reveal their next project — Cossacks 3. A sophisticated remake of the first Cossacks game, now nearly 15 years old, Cossacks 3 is a real-time strategy game that boasts thousands of units pitched against each other on diverse maps that feature base building and resource collection.
The story of GSC, and how it came to make Cossacks 3, was detailed by Polygon just this past May in our exclusive announcement, but today's video shows off the game's units in motion en masse for the first time.
Musketeers stand at attention, while the cavalry waits patiently at the front of the army. The general's horse prances down the line while black-robed priests bless the men. On his command, they all turn gracefully and march off screen.
The clip is notable for the fidelity of the animations, as well as the small details scattered throughout.
Ukraine is only first army to be shown. In May the team told Polygon it plans to have 12 playable nations and eventually support battles between 8,000 units or more. They also said it was scheduled for release "this year, when it’s done."
