Today is the three-year anniversary of the release of Guild Wars 2, and developer ArenaNet decided to celebrate with a huge announcement. In a press release sent out this afternoon, the developer revealed that Guild Wars 2's first expansion, Heart of Thorns, now has an official release date: Oct. 23, 2015.
ArenaNet is currently taking pre-orders for Heart of Thorns on the official Guild Wars 2 website. Pre-ordering gives players access to all future beta weekend events, the next of which is scheduled for Friday, Sep. 4.
In addition to the release date announcement, ArenaNet is holding a press conference tomorrow at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle. The conference will also be streamed on the official Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel.
ArenaNet promised more news at the conference, stating that "MMO players everywhere will want to know new information the studio is revealing about its roadmap for the core game."
ArenaNet's PAX press conference begins tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. PT. Polygon will be watching live and reporting on any major news to come out of the event.
