Gunjack, space shooter for Samsung Gear VR, coming from Eve: Valkyrie developer

CCP Games' newest game is Gunjack, a virtual reality arcade shooter set in the Eve Online universe that is in development for Samsung Gear VR, the studio announced today.

Gunjack casts players as the operator of a gun turret, or "gunjack," on a mining vessel in the far reaches of space. The turrets are the vessel's first line of defense against space pirates and other threats. As you can see in Gunjack's debut trailer above, the game consists of blasting enemies with the turret's machine guns as well as power-ups such as homing missiles, lasers, smart bombs and an artillery cannon.

Gunjack is CCP's second VR project, joining the dogfighting game Eve: Valkyrie, and is "built from the ground up for virtual reality," the studio said in a press release today. CCP is developing Gunjack in Unreal Engine 4.

"Our goal was nothing less than creating the best game yet for the Gear VR headset," said Jean-Charles Gaudechon, executive producer on Gunjack and studio manager at CCP Shanghai. "Our team has focused on delivering the most action-packed, graphically-stunning game possible on this new virtual reality platform."

Gunjack is scheduled to launch alongside the consumer editions of the Samsung Gear VR headset, which are expected to be available this fall.
