Are today's cartoons the best that kids' television has ever been?

Doug Walker, the Nostaglia Critic, asks the question: Are kids' cartoons better now than ever?

His answer follows the history of television animation for kids, from early Warner Bros. and Disney efforts, through the explosion of toyetic animated series in the '80s and the relapse into more story-driven fare in the early '90s. Ultimately, it compares all of those time periods to today.

Sometimes it's just nice to sit back and remember that we're enjoying an era where listing immensely popular animated series that appeal to both kids and adults while they tackle tough but important themes — Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, My Little Pony — is surprisingly easy.
