The long wait until the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is almost over, and Konami is releasing the final trailers ahead of its release next month.
Ostensibly, the Gamescom 2015 trailer is about the end of an in-game era and the ascension of Big Boss. But, given the months-long, still-unfolding drama between Metal Gear mastermind Hideo Kojima and Konami, the end of an era takes on a meta meaning, too.
Press play above to watch the trailer and decide for yourself how much of it is about the game and how much is about real life. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is set for a Sept. 1 release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC.
