Konami explains workaround for Metal Gear Solid 5 save bug

Konami is working on a patch for a game-breaking Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain save bug, which we reported on earlier this week. In the meantime, the company provided new information on a workaround that allows you to avoid the glitch on its official website.

It was previously thought that having Quiet as your companion during the Episode 29 and Episode 42 missions would trigger a corruption of your save files. However, Konami explains that she may still safely join you if "you use the Butterfly Emblem throughout the mission or avoid raising your Bond Level with [her] to MAX during the course of the mission."

Polygon staff also encountered this message within the game itself, when launching it for the first time on the PlayStation 4. It was included among several messages detailing various errata.

Thus far, this method is the only way to bring Quiet along during these missions while preserving your save file, as the glitch is still present in the game.

In its announcement, Konami again thanks players for their patience and reminds them that a patch is in the works. The company promises that more news on the release of that "will be announced soon."

Metal Gear Solid 5, which we awarded a 9.0, is available now for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
