You don’t have to wait until Sept. 19 to watch the ninth season of Doctor Who. It starts today, in abbreviated form, with a two-minute prologue from the BBC.

It begins in medias res, which is how film students say “in the middle of things.” Think of the first Star Wars movie, which starts in the midst of a space battle. Or any Star Wars movie, really. Anyway, back in the Whoverse, the Doctor stands among rocks, tells some lies, gets called a liar and then … well, maybe it’s best to press play below to find out.

The long-running British science fiction drama returns to the BBC a week from tomorrow.
