Fallout 4's latest educational cartoon discusses Perception

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

The second video in Fallout 4's series revisiting the role-playing game's SPECIAL attributes hit today, explaining Perception. There's more to it than meets the eye.

Perception isn't just the stat that governs whether you see an enemy on your HUD from far off, or when he's already shot you in the back of the head. It affects targeting under the VATS combat system, which returns again with Fallout 4. It also influences how you take useful things from people and leave exploding things in their pockets.

No gameplay in this video — it's all done in the Fallout universe's time-shifted visual style of postwar America set 200 years in the future. Next week we'll probably be discussing endurance. By Nov. 10, you should have your optimal build in mind for Fallout 4's launch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. For more, see our preview from QuakeCon.
