Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 launches spring 2016 with PlayStation VR support

Team Ninja's third entry in its vacation and volleyball-themed spin-off of the Dead or Alive fighting game franchise will be released in Japan next spring, the developer announced at Tokyo Game Show today. The PlayStation 4 version of the game, known as Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune, will support Sony's virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR.

The developer also announced the cast of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 — which is also coming to PlayStation Vita under the name Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Venus. The roster features Marie Rose, Honoka, Kasumi, Ayane, Kokoro, Nyotengu, Hitomi, Momiji and Helena. That group of fighters turned frolickers was determined by a fan vote, with Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate's Marie Rose leading the poll by a wide margin.

It's not clear yet just how Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune will support PlayStation VR, which is the final name of Sony's head-mounted display previously known as Project Morpheus.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is being developed exclusively for Japan and the rest of Asia, according to Team Ninja lead Yosuke Hayashi. The game was announced for PS4 and Vita last month.
