Real-life Dogmeat from Fallout 4 dares you not to fall in love

Fallout 4's canine companion takes the spotlight in a video released today by the game's developer, Bethesda.

The model for Dogmeat, one of 12 characters who can accompany the player in the game, is a German Shepherd owned by Bethesda's Joel Burgess. The level designer's dog, River, performed video and audio capture to be used by the developer in creating his digital counterpart.

It's important to mention that Dogmeat won't die during the course of the story. That bodes well for players who will undoubtedly fall in love with the charming dog.

Bethesda also uploaded another video showing off more footage of Dogmeat and the other companions. It was initially created for and shown at E3, but is now available to watch online.

These videos are just the latest in a series of Fallout 4 promotional spots created by the company. We most recently watched the latest clip showing off the Perception component of the game's SPECIAL attributes, featuring the vintage cartoon style typical of its retro setting.

Fallout 4 launches Nov. 10 for the PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. We had a chance to preview the game at QuakeCon this year, where we got to meet some of the companions, including Dogmeat, for ourselves. Also discovered at that event: Codsworth, your robotic assistant, can call you whatever you want, including "Mr. Fuckface."
