GOG.com has been making magic happen when it comes to getting popular, older games on its service in a way that's playable on modern machines — the recent re-release of a slew of LucasArts games has been a godsend to Star Wars fans — and the latest game to get the special treatment is System Shock.
You can play the game in its original form, playable on your modern PC, or you can choose the enhanced options.
"The re-release supports resolutions up to 1024x768 (compared to the original 640x480), and a native 854x480 widescreen mode," the press release states. "Gameplay was also streamlined with a toggleable mouselook mode, including more intuitive inventory and item management. Combined with assorted bug-fixes and remappable controls, System Shock is now truly enhanced."
The game is on sale right now for $7.99, and will go back up to $9.99 on Tuesday, Sept. 29. This is a great chance to play one of the most influential first-person shooters ever released, and to see where games like Deus Ex got a bit of their secret sauce.
