The first version of the Gear VR hardware from Samsung and Oculus was aimed at developers and enthusiasts, but a retail version was announced at Oculus Connect today. The finalized Gear VR will launch in November of this year for $99 and is aimed at a mainstream audience.
It looks very similar to the existing hardware, but Samsung and Oculus redesigned the hardware to work with the entire line of flagship Samsung smartphones from 2015. The headset is also 22 percent lighter and much more comfortable to wear. The touchpad has been redesigned, as well.
We should have hands-on impressions of the Gear VR later today.
