One of the more appealing features of the smaller New Nintendo 3DS hardware is the interchangeable cover plates that let you customize the look of your handheld. Thanks to Nintendo's own online store, New Nintendo 3DS owners in North America can purchase those cover plates without having to import them from Japan.
Nintendo of America's online store is currently selling 10 cover plates for the New Nintendo 3DS. They range from character-based cover plates featuring Kirby, Pikachu and K.K. Slider to color and pattern options. While the selection is a little limited — Nintendo of Japan has released more than 60 cover plates to date — New Nintendo 3DS owners do have the option to purchase the stylish Legend of Zelda cover plate.
Prices on the cover plates vary from $9.99 to $16.99.
Nintendo of America released the smaller New Nintendo 3DS today, Sept. 25, alongside Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. The system is being sold as part of a bundle with that game, which includes two Animal Crossing-themed cover plates.
