The future doesn’t look so bright for the stars of the next Call of Duty game.
Black Ops 3 looks ahead to a dystopian future in story trailer
A new trailer focusing on the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 campaign's storyline is filled with black and white faux news footage revealing the dark, sci-fi future at its center.
Mostly featuring cutscenes and pre-rendered footage, including that of Christopher Meloni (Law & Order) as the villain, the video might help to contextualize yesterday’s promotional stunt on Twitter. Throughout Tuesday afternoon, the Call of Duty franchise account altered its branding for several hours and tweeted “breaking news” updates regarding escalating military action in Singapore.
While it at no point explicitly references the story constructed on social media yesterday, the trailer does seem to suggest what the fallout from that type of event might look like, Call of Duty-style.
The single-player campaign will be available to players only on the current-generation consoles: PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. When Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches on Nov. 6, versions for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will ship with multiplayer modes only.
