The Behemoth's cooperative beat 'em up Castle Crashers will come to Xbox One in the form of a remastered rerelease on Sept. 9, the developer announced today. Castle Crashers Remastered will initially be free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers who already own the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Castle Crashers Remastered will come with higher resolution textures, double the frame rate (60 fps) and a number of tweaks to gameplay and online performance, The Behemoth says. It will also come with a new mini-game, "Back Off Barbarian."

Castle Crashers Remastered on Xbox One is priced at $14.99, though players who already have the Xbox 360 version can get it for free until Sept. 20, provided they have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. After that date, owners of the Xbox 360 version can still get a discount on the Xbox One remaster. The game will cost just $5 after the free promotional window.

The Behemoth says that the original Xbox 360 version of Castle Crashers will be backward compatible on Xbox One "in the nearish future."
