Every copy of Nintendo's Super Mario Maker comes with a nice bonus: a book that's packed with ideas for making your own Mario levels and plenty of fantastic looking artwork from the series. Even if you're not planning on picking up Super Mario Maker — or you're opting for the download version — you can still peruse that book in PDF format.
The Super Mario Maker booklet is available to download now from Nintendo of Japan's website. It weighs in at 12 MB and should give players a good starting point for how to lay out levels and populate them with classic Mario gameplay features.
Veteran Mario designer Takashi Tezuka told Polygon that he calls the book "The Seeds of Super Mario Maker," and when paired with the game's electronic manual, can be a huge boon to budding Super Mario Bros. level designers.
"I think the book that comes with the game will help people hone their skills and learn techniques they can add to their own courses," Tezuka said. "If we were to name this book, we would call it 'The Seeds of Super Mario Maker.' We give you all the basics to make something great."
Super Mario Maker comes to Wii U on Sept. 11. For more on the game, read Polygon's review.
