Choice Provisions has unveiled Tharsis, its latest effort after many years spent on the Bit.Trip series. The game is a harrowing trip to Mars heavily inspired by tabletop mechanics, specifically worker placement games like Pandemic and Lords of Waterdeep.

A crew of four is stranded aboard the Iktomi, a spacecraft just barely holding together. With 10 weeks left in their voyage the craft is struck by a meteorite, which leads to a cascade of system failures. Players will have to leave it up to a roll of the dice to see if they make it to the Red Planet alive.

But there's something more sinister in the background of the game. It holds secrets, and will only reveal them once you've made the harrowing journey alive. Where it takes you once you reach your destination is anyone's guess. Susana Polo joins me for the voyage.

Tharsis will be available Jan. 12 on for Windows PC and Mac as well as iOS and PlayStation 4.
