Psychonauts, Double Fine Production's cult classic PlayStation 2 platformer, will arrive on PlayStation 4 sometime this spring, the studio announced on the PlayStation Blog.
This comes just a day after studio lead Tim Schafer hosted an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, in which he revealed more plot details about Psychonauts' long-awaited sequel. Psychonauts 2 will also launch on PlayStation 4, as well as Windows PC and Xbox One, sometime in 2018. Its development will receive financial assistance from campaign backers on Fig, the equity-bearing crowdfunding platform which Schafer co-founded with other developers.
Just last week, the project met its crowdfunding goal of $3.3 million, although the overall production budget will land somewhere between $10 and $13.5 million, Schafer told Polygon, to be contributed by other funding sources.
A virtual reality title for PlayStation VR completes the trifecta of Psychonauts games on PS4. That game, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, was announced during PlayStation Experience 2015.
