John Boyega says Star Wars: Episode VIII will be 'much darker'

John Boyega can't say much about what's going to happen in Star Wars: Episode VIII, but he warns that it's about to get a lot more intense.

Talking to Vogue about his BAFTA nomination for his role as Finn in The Force Awakens, Boyega spoke about what fans could expect from Star Wars' eighth film.

"It's great," he said. "Much darker, but we're very excited."

Boyega added that while the reception around his character has been wonderful, he's taking it all in stride. As he points out, fans can go from loving Finn to thinking he's "the worst thing that's ever happened to Star Wars" in a snap.

He did confirm, however, that Finn will have a much more active role in the eighth film, joking that he may have to spend more time in the gym for this one than he did for The Force Awakens.

"For this film we really took it scene by scene, there wasn't a huge regime," he said. "My part in the next film will be much more physical."

Star Wars: Episode VIII is due out next year, with the first anthology spinoff, Rogue One, scheduled to be released later this year.

Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac are all set to return.
