John Romero, co-creator of FPS classic Doom, decided to try his hand at creating a new level for the game — his first in 21 years. In a Facebook post and tweet, he both announced his return to level design for the game and offered it as a free download to players.
It's been 21 years since I made a DOOM level. Here's my version of E1M8 using DOOM1.WAD. https://t.co/ueKM7gBbXd pic.twitter.com/NlmA9aIALN

DOOM1.WAD is the game's default set of data files; E1M8 is the final level in the shareware version of the original Doom's first episode, "Knee-Deep in the Dead."
Doom still boasts a lively community of level creators and players. One fan site, Doom World, even ranks the best fan-made levels annually, and has done so for every year of the 22-year-old game's lifespan.
A reboot of Doom is heading to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One this year. An alpha for the game ran in December.
