I played Oxenfree this week and I enjoyed it, though with many of the reservations outlined in Allegra Frank's review, posted on Polygon earlier today. It's a spooky teen drama which makes heavy use of dialog options, but which presents them with a light and humorous touch.
The puzzles are straightforward and the scares are more subtle than the usual jump-tactics of most horror games. This is also a painterly world that's a joy to explore. Its biggest contribution is presenting an intriguing cast of characters along with the convincing illusion that you can manipulate them through smart dialog choices.
You can best judge for yourself by playing the game, and by watching Allegra and I debate the game's highs and lows in this 20-minute Let's Play.
