British heavy metal band Iron Maiden is getting into the free-to-play mobile game business with Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, which is coming to Android and iOS this summer. Players will control the band's iconic mascot, Eddie, in battles across space and time, according to an announcement.
The band's forthcoming game will be an "action-packed, free-to-play RPG steeped in Iron Maiden mythology," according to a release. That mythology is rooted in more than 30 years of Iron Maiden's album artwork and music. The band promises to release "previously unheard live recordings of Iron Maiden classics adapted for the game by engineer Tony Newton under the close scrutiny of bassist and founding member Steve Harris."
Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast is being developed by Roadhouse Interactive — who worked on Warhammer 40,000: Carnage and Family Guy Online — and 50cc Games.
Iron Maiden has flirted with video games before, including the 1999 PC CD-ROM game Ed Hunter and promotional games Speed of Light and The Final Frontier.
