'Long War' developers team up with XCOM 2 to launch day-one mods

The developers behind the Long War total conversion mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown have partnered with Firaxis Games, the maker of the series, and will release new mods alongside XCOM 2 when it launches for Windows PC on Feb. 5, Firaxis announced.

XCOM: Long War is far and away the most popular mod for Firaxis 2012 reboot of the beloved strategy title (and 2013's XCOM: Enemy Within expansion and update). The modders who made it, James "JCLewis" Karlson, John Lumpkin and Rachel "Amineri" Norman, then founded Long War Studios to continue their work and have recently begun an entirely new game called Terra Invicta.

Long War released its final version just last month. When it launched in beta in 2014, XCOM lead designer Jake Solomon gave its features a big thumbs up over Twitter, sending thousands to download it. Since then it has been downloaded by more than 500,000 users.

Lumpkin will join Firaxis at its megapanel at PAX South in San Antonio, where the panel will discuss mod support for XCOM 2 as well as show off a live gameplay demonstration. It will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 and may be viewed over PAX's Twitch channel.
