Executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer finally shared an update on his long awaited Top Gun 2 project yesterday.
Bruckheimer tweeted a photo of himself and Top Gun star Tom Cruise, captioning it, "Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend Tom Cruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2."

The possibility of a sequel to Tony Scott's 1986 blockbuster has been in talks for years, with Cruise confirming last year that it would be fun to jump back in the series.
Bruckheimer has always said that he wanted to move the sequel forward and, despite the death of Scott in 2012, still had plans to bring the sequel to fruition.
Of course, just because Bruckheimer and Cruise are discussing the possibility of it, and probably looking into possible scheduling, doesn't mean that it's happening for sure.
The team still needs to find a director to replace Scott, and although there have been rumors that the writer behind The Jungle Book would be penning the script, there's no confirmation on that.
