Age of Conan developer Funcom is making an open-world survival game set in the Conan the Barbarian universe, the company announced today. Titled Conan Exiles, Funcom describes that game as "first and foremost a multiplayer game that can be enjoyed on both private and public servers" but will also have a single-player mode.
"There is no better setting for an open-world survival game than the world of Conan," said Joel Bylos, creative director at Funcom, in a release. "Hyboria is a harsh and unforgiving land where only the strongest can survive while the weak are swiftly cut down. Whether it is hunting animals for food, fighting monsters and other players, or building entire settlements, we want to make sure players feel like they are really fighting to survive and prosper in the most brutal fantasy world ever."
Players will assume the role of an exile who must fight for survival by hunting animals for food, growing crops and gathering resources to build weapons, tools and shelter. Funcom promises that players will be able to team up with others in Conan Exiles both in battle and to build settlements.
Funcom's announcement trailer for Conan Exiles is a pre-rendered tease for the game, which is expected to go into early access on PC sometime this summer. Conan Exiles is also coming to unspecified consoles.
