Today marks the inception of Roy Batty in Blade Runner

Today is Roy Batty's birthday. Or, rather, today is Roy Batty's date of inception.

The character made famous in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner — which came out in 1982 — was the miscreant gang leader of a group of replicants on the run. In the film, Batty and his group of illegal replicants were being chased down by Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford.

Batty was a part of the Nexus-6 line of genetically engineered replicants, developed by the Tyrell Corporation. Batty's inception date flashes across the screen at one point in the movie, on top of a brief description that points out he was developed specifically for combative purposes.

He's also the oldest of all the replicants in his motley crew, with Pris being "born" on Feb. 14, Zhora on June 12 and Leon on April 10, 2017.

Batty was famously portrayed by Rutger Hauer, who will be providing voice over work for Hello Games' long-awaited game, No Man's Sky. That game will be available on PlayStation 4 this June.
