Pokémon Generations proves that Team Magma has the series’ creepiest villains

Another episode, another change of pace

Pokémon is a test of skill, but it’s also a battle between good and evil at its core. That’s made obvious in the newest episode of Pokémon Generations, "The Vision," which spotlights the Hoenn region’s fearsome Team Magma.

Team Magma appears in both Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, although players of the former version were the ones who actually got to face off against the group. Led by the stoic Maxie, they’re a frightening pack; even Brendan, the future Pokémon champion and star of the third-generation games, appears to be no match for Team Magma this time around.

It doesn’t help that he’s trying to take them down on their home turf. After breaking into Team Magma’s hideout in Lilycove City, Brendan does away with a pack of Magma grunts with ease. It’s when he’s up against upper-level members like Courtney and Tabitha that things get a little dicy.

We won’t get further into the plot of this narrative-heavy, four-minute installment, but expect a special appearance from Pokémon Ruby’s cover star in there too.

"The Vision" is one of the weekly series’ more dramatic episodes yet, and considering how unsettling its final note is, it’s a pretty solid tale in the lead-up to Halloween.
