The newest trailer for Assassin’s Creed has Michael Fassbender learning how to kill, survive and jump from rooftop to rooftop unseen.
Unlike previous trailers, which focused a little more on introducing Fassbender’s modern-man-turned-assassin Callum Lynch, the new trailer shows off some of the film’s more intense stunt work. There are massive free falls, choreographed hand-to-hand combat scenes and carts driving off the edges of cliffs.
The film has gained attention for its stunt work, with one of the stunt actors performing a 125-foot free-fall jump, making it one of the highest in 35 years. Fans of director Justin Kurzel’s work shouldn’t be too surprised that he would want it to look and feel as large as it could, including bringing in some of the best stunt performers in the world. Both Fassbender and co-star Marion Cotillard worked closely with the stunt team, doing their own whenever possible, but the actors agreed with Kurzel from the beginning that they wanted to keep CGI to a minimum.
Assassin’s Creed follows Fassbender’s Lynch as he travels back to the age of the Spanish Inquisition and relives the memories of his assassin ancestor, Aguilar. He uses the knowledge that he learns from exploring Aguilar’s memories in his own modern world to try and take down the evil and oppressive Templar organization.
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters Dec. 21.
