Capcom and Microsoft revealed the contents of Dead Rising 4’s season pass today, and the most intriguing part of that three-part DLC plan is that it appears it will bring back some classic Dead Rising gameplay: timer-based missions.
Dead Rising 4’s campaign, unlike previous games in the comedic zombie franchise, is doing away with the series’ timer restrictions that some players loved and some found frustrating. But in one of the game’s downloadable add-ons, Frank Rising, players will have to survive a zombie infection with limited time.
Here’s the official description of Dead Rising 4: Frank Rising:
In this DLC, Frank West is freshly infected and needs to find a cure before he becomes a zombie and is lost forever. While searching for a cure, Frank discovers that everything is not the same as it was; zombies are getting smarter, people cannot be trusted and paramilitary forces are plotting to wipe out Willamette. Frank has a limited time before he reverts to the full zombie state and the city is wiped out. Frank will have to get to the truth first… or die trying.
Developer Capcom Vancouver said that it did away with Dead Rising’s timer-based gameplay in order to give players more time with the game’s open world.
“For our main campaign we really felt we wanted people to explore our world, and be able to go everywhere they want to go,” Dead Rising 4 executive producer Bryce Cochrane told GamesMaster magazine this summer. “We don't want them to feel like they're under the gun, to find what they need to find, or get where they need to get”.
It appears hardcore Dead Rising fans will at least get a taste of that timer-based gameplay, if they buy into the game’s $24.99 season pass or Dead Rising 4’s $79.99 deluxe edition.
The cost of Dead Rising 4’s season pass may be a little easier to swallow, however, based on one of its other components: an outlandish Dead Rising take on mini golf. Here’s the description of Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf:
You’ve mastered the outbreak – now it’s time to master the green, with eighteen holes of pure wanton destruction you can play with up to three friends online. Flip zombies the birdie where bloodthirsty, over the top zombie mayhem is par for the course. The world of Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf is extreme and the fairways are the town of Willamette, Colorado, including the iconic Willamette Memorial Megaplex Mall. Use Frank West’s favorite weapons as your set of golf clubs. With an oversized golf ball, drive down the fairways, reaching for the green to nail the perfect putt. Watch your score as you do not want to bogey in this zombie filled eighteen-hole golf course. Mini golf is made crazier with the zombie horde as obstructions and hazards.
Dead Rising 4 comes to Xbox One and Windows PC Dec. 6. Dates for the game’s season pass content have not been announced.
