Alan Tudyk talks about the live-action cameo he shot for Rogue One

The actor almost had two roles in the film

Alan Tudyk already has a major role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as the newest droid, K-2SO. In a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session yesterday for his new show Con Man, Tudyk revealed that he was actually supposed to have two roles in the film, including a live-action cameo.

The revelation came in a response to a question from a fan about favorite cameos that the cast have done throughout their careers. Tudyk said that he was originally supposed to have a cameo in Rogue One as his Con Man character, Wray Nerely, but had just learned that director Gareth Edwards cut it from the film.

“Yeah, I guess it's a cameo — Wray Nerely, so the character that I play in Con Man,” Tudyk wrote. “Sort of my alter ego in Con Man had a role in Rogue One Star Wars. I played a pilot, and the scene got cut I just found out. Like did Wray Nerely survive?

“I was really looking forward to seeing Wray Nerely in Star Wars, but truthfully Wray Nerely would never get that good of a job. So it was probably pretty good that he didn't.”

Although Tudyk’s cameo as the pilot was cut from the theatrical cut of the film, it seems like the type of fan fare that will probably still make it onto the Blu-ray release as a deleted scene. Tudyk has developed a cult-like fanbase over his career after starring in genre-heavy shows like Firefly, Young Justice and a reoccurring role in Arrested Development.

The first season of Con Man is streaming on Lionsgate’s digital channel, Comic Con HQ. The second season premieres later this fall. Rogue One hits theaters Dec. 16.
