Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 gets sneak peek video, new teaser poster (update)

Don’t miss Groot at the very bottom

Starlord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy family are together again at last in the first teaser poster for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The poster, seen below, doesn’t give off too much information about the film, but does feature the Guardians and their cohorts looking pretty badass. Fans of the franchise will be happy to note that the film looks like it’s going to keep in line with the tone of the first movie from 2014. The sarcastic, rebellious, anarchic attitude of the team is on display in the poster, along with the newest tagline for the movie: "Obviously."

Along with the five main Guardians, the poster also includes Nebula (Karen Gillan) on the far left and Yondu (Michael Rooker) beside her. In the first film, Nebula is introduced as the adopted daughter of Thanos, the main villain that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building up to. Yondu is the leader of a group of mercenaries called the Ravagers and a key figure in Starlord’s life.

If it’s not obvious upon first glance (it wasn’t for me), Baby Groot can be seen hugging the side of Starlord’s boot. Additionally, if you zoom in on his face, you’ll notice that Groot looks particularly nervous. In a recent interview, Vin Diesel (who voices Groot) said that as an infant version of the character, this Groot will have to relearn everything. He’ll be goofy and adorable, but also much more naive about everything going on around him.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is once again being directed by James Gunn, hits theaters May 5, 2017.

Update: After Marvel unveiled the teaser poster, director James Gunn posted a sneak peek video on his YouTube page. This post has been updated to include that video. It can be seen above.
