Team Ico’s game is really truly happening this time

Development on PlayStation 4 game The Last Guardian is finally complete, according to a producer on the game who tweeted today that the long-in-development project has finally “gone gold.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment producer Jun Yoshino tweeted out the news earlier today, saying “Gone gold. Waddup.” Yoshino’s tweet spread quickly, given apprehension that The Last Guardian will actually make its Dec. 6 release date. Given that the game has been in development since 2007, shifted platforms from PlayStation 3 to PS4 and missed its only officially confirmed release date, PlayStation fans were understandably excited that the game was finally done.

Unfortunately, Yoshino deleted his tweet in less than an hour. It’s not clear if Yoshino made an announcement he wasn’t really supposed to, or if there’s another explanation for the yanked tweet.

We’ve reached out to PlayStation representatives to see if they can confirm The Last Guardian’s gone-gold status and will update with any new details.

Polygon spent time with The Last Guardian at Tokyo Game Show last month. Read our thoughts on the highly anticipated adventure game for more.

Update: Shuhei Yoshida, president of worldwide studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed tonight on Twitter that The Last Guardian has gone gold.
