Pirates of the Caribbean 5’s creepy first teaser makes you reconsider the pirate’s life

Dead men tell no tales — and that means you, Jack Sparrow

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales marks the return of Disney’s dark, swashbuckling adventure franchise after six years underwater. In its debut teaser, the film looks set to make life — or rather, death — at sea seem as difficult as ever.

Although we don’t get reacquainted with Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow, his arch rival Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) makes an appearance, alongside newcomer Brenton Thwaites as the young pirate Henry. Bardem may have been voted one of the world’s sexiest men alive, but the ghastly Salazar is anything but. Instead, he’s bloodthirsty and threatening as he promises to wreak havoc upon the living.

Thirteen years and five pictures in, Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most successful film franchises of all time, with On Stranger Tides grossing more than a billion dollars at the box office. Disney will keep talking up Dead Men Tell No Tales as the film approaches its May 26, 2017 release.
