Two Zero Escape games are coming to PS4 and Vita next year

Welcome ... to the 2017 Nonary Games!

999 Spike Chunsoft/Aksys

The first two games in Spike Chunsoft’s Zero Escape series — Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward — are coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita early next year as part of a package deal. Aksys will release the two adventure games as Zero Escape: The Nonary Games in spring 2017, the publisher announced today.

The re-release of Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (aka 999) is more than just a port, Aksys says. The 2009 game has been “rebuilt from the ground up and now features HD graphics, as well as English and Japanese voice acting.”

Here’s a sneak peek at 999’s visual upgrade:

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors was first released on Nintendo DS in Japan in 2009. The game came to North America the following year and was ported to iOS in 2013. The sequel, Virtue’s Last Reward, was released on Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita in 2012.

The most recent game in the visual novel franchise, Zero Time Dilemma, came to 3DS, Vita and Windows PC earlier this year. Read Polygon’s review of the game for more.
