Over the past week, video game designer and Rayman creator Michel Ansel has amplified speculation that the sequel to cult hit Beyond Good & Evil is finally coming, after some eight years of teasing and unfulfilled promises. Today, Ancel is taking his teasing a bit further, hinting that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is finally in pre-production.
On Instagram, Ansel posted a new piece of artwork that looks like a member of the rhino-like Mammago family from Beyond Good & Evil along with the caption "Endangered species - now saved - Game in pre-production - Stay tuned!"
This is the third such Beyond Good & Evil-themed tease posted by Ancel to Instagram this week. It’s being done with the apparent blessing of publisher Ubisoft, who tweeted last week — complete with winking emoji — that Ancel fans should pay attention to his Instagram account.
A sequel to Beyond Good & Evil was first announced back in 2008, but as of earlier this year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot promised that the game was still in some form of development.
Reached for comment, an Ubisoft spokesperson offered Polygon the following statement:
"Michel is currently sharing his time between Ubisoft and Wild Sheep studios. The artwork he posted is from the game he's currently working on at Ubisoft. We don't have anything further to share at this stage."
Ancel and his team at Wild Sheep Studio are currently working on PlayStation 4 exclusive Wild — apparently alongside the long-promised Beyond Good & Evil 2.
