Gears of War 4 is best experienced high, discovers Conan O'Brien

A clueless gamer is flying high for this new game

Conan O’Brien is known for many things, including his appreciation for, and self-proclaimed cluelessness about, video games. But in last night’s latest "Clueless Gamer" segment, featuring the very mellow rapper Wiz Khalifa, the red-headed talk show host revealed his appreciation for another entertaining substance entirely.

O’Brien and Khalifa ostensibly get together to play some Gears of War 4, the latest entry in the third-person shooter franchise. They do get down to business by the video’s end, blasting through enemies during some local co-op multiplayer. Before they even make it to the game’s ravaged planet Sera, however, the pair get blazed in real life.

At first, O’Brien graciously rejects Khalifa’s offer — but as Gears of War’s extraterrestrial, warfare-laden backstory is explained to the pair, the host figures out that the best way to enjoy Gears of War 4 is after several tokes.

What follows is probably the most relaxed gameplay session of an intense action game ever shown on network television. Don’t expect O’Brien to get too mellow, though; he still finds plenty of reason to freak out, although it looks like he’s doing a better job playing the game than usual.

We enjoyed Gears of War 4 without the use of additional help, which you can read more about in our review. The game’s out on Windows PC and Xbox One on Oct. 11, and picking up the game on one system earns you a copy for the other.
