Activision’s remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare apparently has a few secrets. Players have discovered, thanks to digging through system files for Modern Warfare Remastered, that the game has more than 10 hidden weapons that aren’t playable through normal means, including a handful of weapons from other Call of Duty games.
While it’s not clear why these weapons are in the game — Call of Duty players on Reddit have theorized that they’re either related to future downloadable content or were implemented but ultimately scrapped — they’re playable in-game. And Activision has taken a few videos of those weapons in action off of YouTube, thanks to copyright claims.
Modern Warfare Remastered’s hidden weapons include a melee shovel — one of a half-dozen melee weapons mentioned in game files — and a bunch of shotguns, rifles and pistols. Those include Modern Warfare 2’s PP2000 machine pistol, Striker semi-automatic shotgun, .44 Magnum revolver and FAL assault rifle; Black Ops’ Galil assault rifle; and something new to the franchise, the Kamchatka-12 auto shotgun.
We’ve reached out to publisher Activision to see if players will be able to get their hands on these guns through more legitimate means.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is available as part of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s premium editions. The remaster of Infinity Ward’s modern military shooter shipped with 10 multiplayer maps, with Modern Warfare’s remaining six maps expected to arrive in December.
