Get a taste of Fullmetal Alchemist in live action for the first time

The feature is due in 2017

Beloved anime Fullmetal Alchemist is heading back to the big screen next year, but this time, it’s in live action. Announced earlier this year, the feature received its first teaser today, so prepare to see the Elric brothers live and in action for the first time above.

The teaser is a scant 30 seconds, so we’re mostly treated to shots of Edward Elric from behind as he uses his alchemical powers against enemies. There’s a quick glance at his baby brother Alphonse, though, whose metal suit of armor is rendered in CGI for the film.

We also get to see the European setting, which is in keeping with the original anime and manga series. Fullmetal Alchemist was filmed in Italy earlier this spring. The cast and crew are all Japanese, however, unlike other upcoming anime adaptations.

There’s no Western release date announced for the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie. Stateside fans can check out both the original anime and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, a follow-up series that more closely follows the manga. Viz Media, which publishes the franchise in North America, added live-action works to its slate this past spring.
