The subreddit for HBO’s Westworld is a hotbed for theories and discussion among fans about where the direction of the show is headed, but this week, showrunner Jonathan Nolan got in on the action.
A couple of days ago, Reddit user “mattdezine” posed a question to the group that he believed wasn’t getting enough attention: what happened to all of the paintings that Delores made during her time in the theme park? He said that he wasn’t expecting to get an answer to his stupid question — especially from Nolan himself — but the showrunner replied to mattdezine with a GIF explaining everything.
In the GIF, seen above, the security response team is walking through and exploring a house when they discover a series of paintings in a cupboard. Nolan jokingly replied that it “doesn’t look like anything to me,” the common phrase that hosts use when they come upon something they shouldn’t be looking at.
Prior to Nolan sharing that unseen footage, the showrunner had only commented on one other Westworld post on Reddit — ironically enough about his lurking habits. In response to another Reddit user who proclaimed that Nolan lurked Reddit, the showrunner quipped that he absolutely does not.
As of right now, Westworld’s subreddit has more than 100,000 active members. The show just aired its seventh episode and has three more to go before its season finale. HBO recently announced that it had renewed the show for a second season, but that it probably wouldn’t air before 2018 in order to give Nolan and co-showrunner Lisa Joy more time to plot everything out.
Westworld airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
