Report: Game of Thrones actor joins Justice League cast as major villain

From one hellish landscape to the next

Justice League Warner Bros.

In May, DC and Warner Bros. released the identity of Justice League’s major villain that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the new cast of superheroes would have to take on. Today, The Wrap is reporting that a Game of Thrones actor will be taking on the role as DC and Warner Bros.’ next big bad.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Justice League.

According to The Wrap, Ciaran Hinds (you may recognize him as Mance Rayder in the hit HBO series) will play Steppenwolf in Zack Snyder’s followup to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While Hinds may be best known as Rayder, the actor has also appeared in blockbuster films like John Carter, Frozen and There Will Be Blood.

Rumors started floating around at the end of March that Steppenwolf would be the main villain in Justice League after a deleted scene featuring Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) hinted at the character. In the scene, Luthor is talking to Steppenwolf, the leader of the Apokolips army and a member of Darkseid's Elite, all of which was hinted at in Batman v Superman. According to The Wrap, however, Steppenwolf will look different in Justice League than the version glimpsed in the deleted scene.

Hinds will be joined by Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot who are reprising their respective roles as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher will also make their DC Cinematic Universe debuts as Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg.

Justice League hits theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
