Nintendo Switch special editions that don’t exist — but should

Going to need these as soon as possible

Last month, Nintendo finally revealed its hybrid console, the Switch. The Swtich, which can be used as a traditional home console or a portable device, features removable controllers called Joy-Cons that detach from the side and a dock that charges the portable console and provides video output.

Because of the system’s interesting design, fans have been creating mockup versions of what the console could look like with different skins and designs down the line. Nintendo routinely releases special edition versions of its consoles, with the Wii U receiving an aesthetic upgrade to coincide with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD release back in 2013. The company has also released special versions of its 3DS handheld console throughout the years.

Although there are still questions surrounding what titles will launch alongside the Switch when it arrives in March, Nintendo fans have already begun to imagine the possibilities with a series of mockups featuring popular franchises like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., and even Kingdom Hearts.

The Nintendo Switch still doesn’t have a release date or price, but more information about the console is expected to be announced on Jan. 13 at Tokyo Big Sight during the company’s presentation dedicated to the system. The event, which runs in Tokyo between Jan. 14 and 15, will also allow the public to try the Switch for the first time.

Here is a collection of special edition mockups designed by some of the most creative — and excited — Nintendo fans.
