When it comes to who will play Nathan Drake in the adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted franchise, fans have had a few ideas over the years. Everyone from Nathan Fillion to popular video game voice actor Nolan North have been suggested, and in an interview with Collider, director Shawn Levy says he’s heard what people have had to say.
“It’s every actor who is ruggedly handsome, which is to say every movie star, and who looks anything like the square-jawed, chiseled-featured Drake,” Levy said. “I’m not actually going to base my casting on Twitter suggestions. Maybe I’ve even said the name in this room; who knows?”
Levy joked that on Twitter, he’s heard suggestions from fans for major stars like Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Chris Pratt (Jurassic World), Chris Pine (Star Trek Beyond), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones). The director added that while he’s had conversations with Sony about who they’d like to cast, he didn’t know if it was going to be anyone that Twitter suggested.
“The truth is, the conversations that are happening right now are with the studio and the producers talking about who feels right to us and to me.,” Levy said.
The director also mentioned that he was looking to start filming the movie in spring of 2017. Levy said that he was “thrilled” to start making the movie next year, and as long as everything panned out with casting and Joe Carnahan’s script, he would like to begin shooting as soon as possible.
Levy did not give an estimated release date for the Uncharted film, which has been in development for eight years.
