Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards can’t give away too much information about what fans can expect from the movie, but he has revealed an Easter egg to look out for.
[Warning: The following contains spoilers for Rogue One.]
Edwards was recently a guest on The Star Wars Show, a web series produced by Disney and Lucasfilm, to talk about Rogue One. During his time on the show, Edwards admitted that he included a throwback to his 2014 monster movie Godzilla that audiences will be able to see if they pay close attention. Not wanting anyone to miss out on it, Edwards revealed exactly where and what the Easter egg is.
“In Saw’s [Forest Whitaker’s character] cave, there are some cave paintings,” Edwards said. “One of them is of the creatures that were in my first film, Monsters. Then there’s some MUTOs from Godzilla. I didn’t ask for it. I just came in one day and saw it.”
Monsters was Edwards’ directorial debut, and it was his use of digital effects that he helped create that landed him in the director’s chair for Godzilla. Edwards didn’t say if there were any other Easter eggs hiding in Rogue One, but keep your eyes peeled throughout to see if you can spot any more.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters Dec. 16.
