First Fate of the Furious trailer promises a major twist for the franchise

Is it April yet?

The first trailer for The Fate of the Furious, the next installment in the Fast and Furious franchise and the second without Paul Walker, has arrived.

The trailer debuted today during a special Facebook Live event for the movie, which featured the cast of the film and director F. Gary Gray. Prior to the event, Universal Pictures released a three-minute video featuring the cast talking about the importance of family to the Fast and Furious franchise. It also showed off a couple of brief, behind-the-scenes moments between Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Charlize Theron’s Cipher.

Universal confirmed earlier this year that Theron and Helen Mirren would be joining the franchise. Theron’s Cipher is a new adversary that the team would have to take on, alongside Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). Mirren’s role, on the other hand, will be limited to a brief cameo.

The film will reunite Diesel with Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris. The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift’s Lucas Black will also be in the movie.

The Fate of the Furious hits theaters April 14, 2017.
