Amazon’s Deal of the Day is all about the anime, and some of the best-known series are on sale at big discounts through the day’s end. From now until 11:59 p.m. PT on Dec. 21, Blu-ray and DVD sets of shows and movies like Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell are available on the cheap.
The most attractive offer here is for the complete series of Cowboy Bebop on Blu-ray and DVD. The Amazon-exclusive edition Blu-ray combo set is marked all the way down to $47.49; it regularly goes for $100, making this the lowest price ever for this set. Included with all 26 episodes (across nine discs) are a special art box to house them all in, a 140-page black-and-white art book full of concept art and a 48-page full-color art book. (There’s also a standard version of the Blu-ray for $19.99, or a DVD for $15.99.)
The stylish sci-fi anime Cowboy Bebop is consistently regarded as one of the medium’s all-time greatest shows. Now going on 20 years old, it’s still very much worth a watch or rewatch, and the Amazon deal is an easy gift for an anime fan. The show also recently became available to stream on Crunchyroll — a major acquisiton for the online anime viewing library.
Also priced to move is the latest entry in the Neon Genesis Evangelion film franchise. Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo is $14.99 on both Blu-ray and DVD; that’s down from $34.99 and $29.99, respectively.
You Can (Not) Redo finally made it stateside in February, following several delays. There’s one more movie due out in the film franchise, which retells the TV show’s storyline in some unexpected ways. While the Evangelion films aren’t quite up to par with the classic TV series, they’re still worth a viewing for anyone into anime with a lot of mechs and existential dread.
Also on the list are various seasons of the show Black Butler on Blu-ray, Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie on Blu-ray and DVD, and both seasons of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya collected into one Blu-Ray set. In short, there’s something for a diverse set of interests available, and the bulk of the deals are on classic anime well worth checking out.
