Steam Awards names its first-ever winners

They’re not the latest-and-greatest

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

Ten games took honors in 12 categories in the first-ever Steam Awards. Only two of them launched in 2016.

Valve announced the awards back in November during the Fall Steam Sale. All of the honors are fan-voted; Valve opened the promotion with eight categories, adding four last-minute categories that were voted on yesterday.

The winners of the first eight awards. Voting for each took place over a single day, in a period spanning Dec. 22 to 29. You’ll note that two winners are Valve-published.
