Here’s an extended look at Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite gameplay

Now with Captain America and Morrigan

Capcom gave fighting game fans their first look at the new Marvel vs. Capcom fighting game after the conclusion of tonight’s Capcom Cup tournament. Debut footage of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, which is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next year, shows fighters from both the Marvel and Capcom camps duking it out using the power of the cosmic Infinity Stones.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite’s first gameplay trailer shows Ryu and Mega Man X battling Iron Man and Captain Marvel, with two Infinity Stones — time and power — being employed in battle. Infinite’s gameplay looks slightly less chaotic than the previous entry, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, in part thanks to the 2v2 tag team gameplay and the apparent absence of assist characters.

The early look at Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is already drawing comparisons to past Capcom fighting games — Street Fighter X Tekken, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars and Marvel Super Heroes — but it’s not exactly clear which direction Capcom is taking with the fighting game system and how it will evolve over the next year.

Update: Marvel released an extended gameplay clip of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite alongside ESPN2’s presentation of this weekend’s Capcom Cup tournament. The new footage offers a look at two Marvel vs. Capcom veterans: Captain America and Morrigan from Darkstalkers.
